How to create a new analysis and flight campaign
If an analysis has been confirmed by Volateq you can create your own analysis and flight routes using the Volateq planning tool. Don’t hesitate to play around with creating analyses and flight campaigns to get comfortable using the system.
Whenever you start Volafly and select a plant, the flight campaign will be automatically selected and shown for flight execution if an analysis for data acquisition exists (state < DATE_COMPLETE) and has a flight campaign. Creating a new flight campaign only take a few minutes and you are ready to take off with Volafly.
quick video tutorial on the article below:
Create analysis
In order to set up a new analysis, go to “Analyses” and “Create new Analysis”
if you have multiple plants you need to select a plant in the dropdown to the right before you can create a new analysis
if for a plant an analysis for data acquisition already exists (state < DATE_COMPLETE) you first must complete that analysis before creating a new one
Set the correct values for the analysis and click “create analysis”. If there are no options to chose from for “Product packages” or “Drone”, contact the Volateq team.
“Automatically create new flight campaign” should only be selected if the Digital Twin or the PV plant’s flight area polygons are all well prepared and you want to use default settings for everything. Only use this feature if you are an expert regarding flight campaign creation!
Create flight campaign
Now you see the empty analysis and can create a flight campaign in the “Flights” tab under “create flight campaign”.
PTC:
For PTC plants there will be a digital twin provided by Volateq based on which the flight campaigns are created. Just click “Create”.
PV: Drawing flight area polygons
For PV you can draw the flight areas. You can do that at the “Plants” overview when editing a plant but also individually for each flight campaign.
enlarge the map by clicking the symbol at the top right
find your plant by entering coordinates or a city name/address into the search bar in the top left
use the other buttons at the top right to toggle between drawing modes
switch between fly and no-fly drawing by clicking on the drone icon
define one or multiple take-off positions (each flight area will choose the closest take-off position as a starting point)
draw one or multiple flight areas (blue)
for each flight area: the yellow lines define the direction of the drone’s flight path. Select one of the edges to make sure the drone will fly (roughly) perpendicular to the modules and not diagonally
each flight area should be less than 80 ha in size. split into several flight polygons if your plant is larger
hint: in case of lacking a polygon line segment that is perpendicular to the module rows, create a short line section and select it as the yellow line
optionally define no-fly areas (red)
then click “Create”
After calculation the routes will appear in the analysis (as long as a flight campaign is being generated the page will automatically reload every few seconds, just wait).
A flight campaign can consist of multiple flights and multiple flight days. You can check each flight route in our webapp and create new campaigns with adapted flight areas if necessary.
The blue controller highlights the flight campaign of this analysis currently selected for Volafly. There can only be one flight campaign selected at a time. If you create multiple ones you can change the selection yourself in this flight campaign overview.
You are now ready to take off in Volafly!
